Cancer Rehabilitation Fellowship

The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center cancer rehabilitation fellowship is a one-year (July to July), non-ACGME accredited fellowship. It focuses on the rehabilitation needs of cancer patients throughout their cancer journey from diagnosis though treatment and beyond. This includes addressing the plethora of physical, cognitive, and emotional effects of cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, surgical intervention). Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) has two cancer rehabilitation fellows per year. The fellows split their time (50/50) between inpatient consults at the main hospital (Upper East Side of Manhattan) and outpatient rehab clinics.

The inpatient consults rotation consists of following along a total roster of between 30-50 patients throughout their inpatient stay. We are consulted for disposition, symptom management (pain, neuropathy, weakness, lymphedema), bracing needs, therapy guidelines and regimens, bowel/bladder dysfunction, orthostasis, functional prognostication, etc. We are involved in family meetings along with multidisciplinary care. The outpatient clinics are located close to/at the main hospital and at our 53rd street location. These clinics include spine clinic (working alongside neurosurgery), brace clinic (in conjunction with orthotists), NCS/EMGs, ultrasound and palpation guided injections, general cancer rehab clinic, graft vs host disease clinic, etc.

There are nine providers within our growing rehabilitation department. Every month we have the opportunity to work with and teach resident rotators from the New York Presbyterian PM&R program. We also accept rotators from outside programs (are accepting for 2022-2023). We have weekly didactics that include lectures from providers within and outside of our department, journal club, and resident presentations.

New York City is an incredible place to live as there is so much to do and see. The city is easy to navigate, and there is public transportation to and from all rotation sites. The fellowship also offers convenient subsidized housing for all fellows. Patients come from all over to receive care at MSKCC, so the education through this program is diverse and all encompassing. We see patients with all types of cancer and are continually learning about the developments within oncologic care along with the short- and long-term effects of that care.

Applications for this fellowship are accepted up until August 15th of the preceding academic year.  The application is site specific and can be found on the MSKCC website. Please see the contact information below for our wonderful coordinator for further information.
